Why We Stopped Creating Mood boards for Pre-weddings
“Can we discuss thoroughly our pre-wedding session?”
”Can you work on a mood board for the session?”
Often we get asked these questions, and we do get why as well. Plenty of photographers are offering this as an extension of service for their couples and we previously did it too.
Why have we changed our stance?
It is quite a funny thing actually. We only started realising this after observing that the couples were too uncomfortable in the chosen choice of outfits and for the ‘fun activities’ that we were about to partake in, the choice of clothes encumbered them instead.
You see, the way we photograph pre-weddings highly revolves around the spontaneity of the couple.
On top of racking our brains for a creative shot, the couple often gets involved in their photos too. What do I mean?
Most times than not, we realised that being comfortable in your choice of wear at pre-wedding sessions will affect the mood for the day. Whenever the couple is having a great time, there will be more room for spontaneous suggestions on what they would be able to do for a photograph.

These days, we choose to not limit the choice of outfits couples are willing to wear. If they want to turn up in darker coloured outfits, I will say let’s do it! If the groom wants to turn up in Bermudas (berms) in this insane Singapore weather - I’ll be okay with it.
After all, if the couple is enjoying the pre-wedding session, the photos will turn up as perfect as it can be.

That said, we do get that most couples are entering into a pre-wedding shoot for the first time and would really need some helpful tips/guide to how to prepare for one. I have done up a post previously over here: Tips On What To Prepare, For Your Pre-Wedding Shoot: A Guide and it should give you ample ideas on how to prepare.
The key thing is not to over prepare and get yourself stressed out but to head into the shoot and embrace / enjoy it instead. Do not limit yourselves to what social media tells you to do but primarily, think for yourselves and know what you would want in order for you both to be at your best.
Even if you do decide to turn up in a gown and suit combination, embrace the spontaneity of it all and have fun!
See you in the next post!
