Mother-to-be Hern Hern asked for an unusual take on the traditional way of photographing maternity and I gladly obliged, the way Bottled Groove Photography knows how. I met her and husband Dom at another wedding awhile ago and coincidently, HH also used to be an indirect colleague during my corporate days. Full circle now that I was able to be photographing their next leg of the journey - ‘homebuilding’.

Amabelle and Bryan wanted to have an additional segment during their own pre-wedding to document Bryan’s side of the family, as part of the 30th wedding anniversary of his parents. Of course, them being in Tokyo, Japan was the additional bonus and I had no hesitation whatsoever.

Have been inkling to try out a natural white space for family photography and got the chance at Studio Three Sixteen. Thankful for the opportunity from my good ol’ secondary school mate, who wanted family pictures for her parents and siblings.

I may sound like a broken recorder on a loop, but I swear by the importance of having document your child’s growth, especially when they grow up so fast. When I look back at my own child’s photographs when she was younger, that fuzzy, warm feeling invokes so much memories of how she used to be. Had to opportunity to meet my graduated couple after 3 years to document for them their first child too and it was so great to see them again.

Always happy to be photographing familiar faces, especially when their family grows!

Film photographs really hit differently. Add a maternity session and you’ll have an utterly unique experience and one story to relate to your child in the future.

I really think that documenting these little moments such as change of clothes, swaddling, diaper change, showers, tummy time etc (however mundane it might sound on paper) would be precious in the near future - and that's coming from a young parent myself too!
