Hands on - the new Fujifilm X100VI
When it was first announced on 20th Feb 24’s X-Summit that the latest version of Fujifilm’s X100VI was coming, I knew I had to get it. Being a huge Fujifilm fan since the X20 and also the first X100, it has been quite a journey which saw me working with Fujifilms for my full-time photography work.
I actually already own the X100V, the fifth iteration of its increasingly popular camera body - but used it primarily for my family and street sessions. But with the IBIS in the sixth release of the X100 and with me making video content making a priority this year, I knew I had the perfect excuse to get the latest version.
With the latest news in which there is a shortage in stocks / production of the latest X100VI, I felt extremely lucky to have gotten mine early (on time?) in Singapore. Having had the black version for the X100V, I had opted for the silver version this time. I truly wonder how long will Fujifilm take, to meet the demands of customers this time around. And yes, TikTok contributed to the increased popularity of what was already a great camera. Hold your breath on this one, everyone who has not gotten their camera yet. I really do not know where we are heading with this one - only knowing that Fujifilm has hit a gold mine and hopefully, translate to better R&D for future Fujifilm products with the increased revenue.
I got my Fujifilm X100VI from TK Foto, instead of the other more popular camera stores in Singapore. One - SLR Revolution, one of Fujifilm’s key partners, told me they had begun accepting orders way before the announcement of the camera on 20th Feb, which baffled me. I also did not once have a good service experience with Cathay Photo prior, and they always seem to be more comfortable with their regulars anyway. TK Foto, at Funan Mall, always provided good service and lists up-to-date products. More ever, they were located conveniently at Funan Mall, which was centrally easy to access.
Upon receiving the camera, I proceeded to head out to shoot around the “neighbourhood”.
The first major difference I found was the ability to crop into the image without losing detail. Yes yes, I know that you can resize / crop / do whatever you want on Lightroom / Photoshop - but I primarily use the X100 series during my travels, my family photos and also for street photos. I hardly transfer them to Lightroom to edit and will usually use the straight out of camera (SOOC) jpegs. Yes - Fujifilm users and our JPEGs haha.
I had amazing light that day and made full use of the opportunity around the Fullerton Bay area.
Of course, I did want to involve some human element to my photos and proceeded to Singapore’s very popular Merlion spot.
To top it off, I wanted to reboot my YouTube channel by producing content and decided to learn more about video making / content creation. With that, I produced this little clip below and will be more than happy if you guys will head over to support by viewing the video and providing useful comments!
Vlogging with the DJI Osmo Action
And then I started to think - why not record my photo walks using the Action Cam that I had gotten for my recent family trip? And I ended up with this video (also photographed using the all new Fujifilm X100VI) below! It was a short (well, 5-hour) walk with a fellow Fujifilm user / friend, Gurmit and we found ourselves walking around Balestier and then subsequently, Arab Street.
Haha, this experience is definitely new and totally out of my comfort zone but I really hope you will subscribe and I hope to find more time to do stuff like this videos (and of course, improve upon it) in the future! Let’s see where this takes me.
Until next time!
