Orchards on weekday mornings be like

Quiet and nice.

Singapore’s famous shopping street, Orchard Road, can be pretty bustling once human traffic streams in, especially around the late morning as retail starts bursting into life. You get to see all walks of life, from the ‘busy’ office worker who decides to have an early coffee break, to the young student on his/her way to class (or shop).

And then you get uncles like me, with a camera in his hands, perched and ready to strike. To photograph, that is, with my trusty and current favourite camera, the Fujifilm X100V.

What do you do when you’re on time and your friends are not?

Arranged to meet Ashton from Mindful Productions and TC for a walkaround shoot a few weeks ago, and I decided that the theme would be ‘One’, or ‘Two’ if the challenge proved difficult lol. I had always wanted to visit Orchard in the morning, to see what kind of activities there would be if it were not crowded. What better time now when it’s the off-peak period for weddings?

To get the obligatory selfie out of the way.

With the theme being ‘one’, I just had to get a selfie to get things rolling. Weather has been unpredictable lately, and I guess we were lucky not to shoot in the rain that morning.

Check points like this one has become the norm for retail malls.

With the non-existent human traffic at 9.30 am, we practically had the whole stretch to ourselves. It was also pretty empty inside the malls — Yay to that.

Hi there handsome.

Can you recognise some of the mall interiors from the photographs below?

With the Covid situation, many retail outlets have been forced to close. Sad really.

Beyond a doubt it’s the 7th month Hungry Ghost festival now.

We even had time to stop for a break before venturing beyond Orchard, near Killiney Road. Does anyone know where that is? It’s just located next to the huge building belonging to mega-corporation SingTel .

With that ends our little trip to Orchard within only 1.5 hours. Could have been a more extended session if not for our hungry stomachs and tiring legs. Cannot wait for our next shooting trip. If you have a place you’d like us to explore, let us know in the comments section below!
