Have a theme when you're out for walkaround photography shoots
I tried to have fun with this one, and casually said that the theme of my CBD (Central Business District) shoot will be ‘birds’. I really had no idea where I was going with this but I had fun nonetheless. Shoutout to my photography friends who came along and tried really hard to be bird spotters. A career after retiring awaits us.
So when I said ‘birds’, I didn’t expect to be photographing birds to literally. But my inner bird whisperer got to work, and the winged animals did stop by for a visit. 9.30 am here we go.
Tried including at least one bird as we walked from Raffles MRT to Chinatown. Of course, the occasional street snaps made their way to the album too.
Chinatown and the CBD weren’t as crowded as before, perhaps due to the fact that many are still working from home due to Covid. It has become the new norm, I guess.
More birds perched on top of things. Ever wonder why they are so tanned?
Even the normally busy and bustling Chinatown Wet Market was a shadow of its past. But I’m glad most people were maintaining their distance and had their masks on at all times. Or it could just be the fear of getting fined by the authorities. Us carrying cameras around and snapping photos didn’t help to alleviate their fears.
Back to birds after a short detour.
Overall, I thought that having a theme when you’re out for shoots nails down a focus for the day’s walk around. Instead of randomly going around and snapping anything that you see, the theme gives you an objective and target - and that is really fun. It could be anything from colours to shapes, to one of my favourites ‘Things that Don’t Belong’. What are some of your favourite themes to shoot on? Let us know in the comments section below!
